I was telling my husband AJ at the weekend about starting this book blog, being excited to talk about blogs, but not being sure how to write book reviews or what to even actually write about, so he turned around and asked me What books would I take to a desert island and apparently ‘my kindle full of as many books as will fit on it’ is not the answer he was looking for.

So I put on my thinking hat and while admittedly cheating a LITTLE bit came up with:
JRR Tolkien – The Hobbit & The Lord of the Rings Boxed Set
Enid Blyton – Famous Five Collection
Dan Brown – Robert Langdon Collection

Then I decided to actually stop cheating! I wondered whether I’d want a familiar read, a book where I know what happens, or a new to me book, or simply really long books. I thought probably a combination of these would be best.

For familiar reads, it would be a Harry Potter book – maybe The Goblet of Fire or Order Of The Phoenix. Also Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson. And maybe a Narnia book.
For new to me books, something by Holly Black or Sarah J Maas. or some Sherlock Holmes
For really long books, The Stand by Stephen King or Priory Of The Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon (which also works for ‘new to me’ as well.

How about you? What books would you want on a desert island?

There is no point being, and I use this term loosely, a 'grown up' if I can't fill my Kindle full of the books that brought my joy as a child. That's what I earn money for, right? Things that make me happy. And so my Kindle is currently bursting with Enid Blyton.
I've started reading Five On A Treasure Island for probably the billionth time, and I'm still loving it as much at 33 as I did at 7 or 8

The Famous Five were my absolute favourites as a child. I wanted to be George. I still want to be George. My first crush was on Jemima Rooper who played her CITV adaptation in the 90s.

I grew up on a steady diet of Enid Blyton (The Adventure Series, The Faraway Tree, The Famous Five, The Five Find-Outers, Malory Towers,) Carolyn Keene, CS Lewis & Franklin W Dixon. From there it was on to The Hobbit, Lord Of The Rings and Harry Potter before ending up with Dan Brown, John Grisham & Stephen King as my favourite writers.

I have so much love for adventure, fantasy, magic & mystery that was definitely inspired by the childhood loves, then also falling in love with horror, science fiction and thrillers as a young adult.
